Take an excerpt from a national poet or writer and transform the task into a single typographic composition:
- Redesign the first line of text in a style that’s appropriate to the subject – draw it, render it, build it
- Then take the body of the text and typeset it
- Be experimental. How does leading, positioning, stresses on particular words and detailing affect the power of the piece?
- How is meaning affected by interpretation inn a tangible way?
- What is the relationship of the page
I was thinking and the first poem that came to my mind was the one that I remember from my childhood – every kid in school should know it back then
I am Bulgarian,
I love our green mountains
To be called Bulgarian
is a great joy for me!
I am a free Bulgarian.
in a land of freedom I live
Everything Bulgarian and native,
I adore, I love, and Miss
I am a Bulgarian and I am living
in days of greatness and in times of glory
A son of a land so wonderful,
a son of tribe so mighty!
This is very patriotic poem -so, I use the colors of thee Bulgarian flag – white, green and red.
I design the first line to look like a flag.
Then I put the text in the shape of Bulgaria.
The country has a long line of mountains inn the middle – that’s why I put the text that looks like this.
