Use the DNA of your initial visual research from week1 to create a new and unique piece of typography that spells out the name of your town or city. Your new title lettering should reflect the identity of your town or city.

After reading the materials for this week and watching the lecture, i decided to do some research on the town that I live in – Bel Air, Maryland. We move here 20 years ago. Every year they are building more and more – houses, shopping centers, hospital, schools…It has change so much since we move. I hear from people that have been living here many years to say that this was all farms around just couple decades ago. When I drive around, I still see many farms left outside the town.

So, I was trying to think how I can represent this change of the town from farm land to modern place bringing more and more people to live here.

Textures that I think I can use.

Bel Air is a small town that grow up a lot the last 2-3 decades – before that was mostly farms in the area. So, I was tinkling that somehow i should show this change from country to modern look.

I use the image of the silo (it is something very common in a farm – and you still see it when you drive outside the town – there are still many farms around) – so, the stem i round on the top but the brakets on the bottom look like slab serif (like the bricks in the modern buildings) – this way we combine the old and the new together.

Then I use the brick texture to fill the letters with (this texture represents the today progress of the town).

Then I use the wood texture to represent the past (most of the barns have this color)

So, the wood texture represents the past of the town and the brick texture represents the today look of the town.

At first I try to find way to combine them:

I decided to find more creative way to represent the transformation of the farmland to modern style, so I came up with this:

It needed it little more contrast between the background of the text with the wood texture and the one with the brick texture.

I use some adjustments layers to increase the contrast even more.
